CYBER SALE At Toinette's E-mail for Details! My BEST SALE ever!
Highly polished on the front the stone is in perfect condition with no chips or scratches. (it is so highly polished, that it acted as a mirror when I took pictures!)
The back of the pendant is as beautiful as the front. It has strong basket like construction. Really lovely work. I suspect this may have been a mourning necklace. Onyx was a favorite stone for that purpose in the Victorian and Edwardian Era. The bail, original to the pendant is also beautifully cast.
The Edwardian period or Edwardian era in the United Kingdom is the period covering the reign of King Edward VII, 1901 to 1910. I do not think this piece is earlier than that.
It is HEFTY at 1 & 3/4 long X 1 & 1/8 wide AND three dimensional at 1/2 inch. The pendant is marked with the European silver mark of .835. The sterling silver rope chain, marked .925 is 23 inches long. It is not original to the pendant.
