All cloth doll by Kathe Kruse, circa 1910 to 1920, 16" tall.

Cloth doll with pressed and oil painted facial features and short brown hair with defined curls, shaded brown eyes, thick brown upper lash lines, eyes with brown pupils and side highlights, tiny iris lines, accented nostrils, closed mouth with pouting expression.

Original body is stitch-jointed at shoulders, disc-jointed wide hips.

Costume with short pants and tunic top with adorable pocket. We opened the plaid cuffs to undress the dolls. If you would like us to stitch-tack them back together prior to shipment, please request it at purchase. Undergarment is one piece with feather-stitching and tatted trim at armholes. Knit cap.

Identifying features: Doll I, c1910: all muslin; sturdy toddler body; heavy, oil-painted hair; nicely painted eyes; closed mouth with pensive expression. This series can be identified by a center seam on the palm of the hand, three vertical seams on back of the head, and it may also have two chin seams. This doll has all of these features. See page 250 in "200 Years of Dolls 3rd Edition" by Dawn Herlocher for more information and examples.

Condition: Very Good, original finish with paint worn primarily on nose tip, no re-paint or touch-up, body in outstanding condition with no tears or mends.

Kathe Kruse, Series I, circa 1910. Especially fine pressed modeling of features with highly characterized expression, original fine painting albeit with wear.
