Wonderful early German Zebra with silky smooth fur with dyed zebra stripes, over carved wooden body structure. When the fur is stroked across the nap, you can see that the fur is not striped all the way to the hide base, so we determined the stripes were brushed on with dye. There is no change in texture over the stripes, so the effect is very realistic.

The zebra has wonderful large blown glass eyes of the type in circa 1860s papier mache dolls, and carved and painted wooden muzzle and hooves. The mane and tail are from caracul or lambs wool.

Outstanding original condition with no damage or repair save some wear to the muzzle.

Zebra stands 12” tall from floor to top of head, 8” to back, 9” long from fully extended back hoof to front hoof.
