Circa 1885-1891. Tall, elegant Nippon tankard with Moriage decoration. Fresh from an estate, this wonderful example of Japanese Moriage work is full of fine detail and brilliant color. The design is a fine example of the Aesthetic Movement, which was popular in this period. Very good original condition, the only flaws being a two inch shallow hairline (does not extend to the outer decorated surface) and very minor loss to the dots around the base. 13 1/4" tall x 7" diameter. Price $550.
