A delightful piece of signed art depicting a somewhat clad Miss being serenaded by a pair of songbirds. The lithograph has been hand colored, framed in cardboard, matted, covered with glass and surrounded by a wood frame. It is finished on the back with paper and a wire is attached for hanging. The litho is quite old and, as such, has foxing (age spotting), some discoloration on the top and sides, a rift in the paper (for lack of a better term) behind the birds, a rub mark in the lady's skirt, and a dark area in the matting in the shape of a label (see pics). The etching and surrounding frame are likely from the 1910's to 20's, while the matting and frame are more recent. The piece is signed by the artist "Roppee" in pencil on the bottom, along with the title of the picture "The Chorus". It is additionally marked "B.P.F.W., NY" on the bottom left. With a framed size of 21 5/8" x 17.5" and a pictorial size of 13.75" x 9.75" the lithograph is meant to be seen, and with its handsome frame and delicate coloring, admired. Despite its age characteristics (and because of them) it's still a very desirable piece with a wonderful story and lighthearted theme. Quite "the thing" for those lovers of Art Deco and French art. You'll be pleased, we're sure!
