This vintage stereo view depicts two pieces of well known Renaissance statuary. The hand written description on the reverse side explains: “Two Pieces of Statures (sic), The one on the left is Michelangelo’s celebrated ‘David.’ The other by his rival Baccio Bandinelli is Hercules and Cacus. Florence, March 31st, 1872“. Both sculptures were completed in 1504. The photos are hand mounted on flat orange card stock and the bottom right side of the card has been trimmed so that the card is not perfectly square. The front of the card lists the maker as “Giacomo Brogi - Firenza. The inscription on the right side of the card reads: Lungarno Delle Grazie, 15”, which I believe to be the address of the maker. Brogi was a photographer who lived from 1822-1881. The card is in excellent condition for its age.
